Year 10 ESFA Small Schools Trophy (3rd Round)

Match report courtesy of the Year 10 captain Shaun Hillier, who was unable to play due to injury.

Plymouth Studio School took on ISCA Academy last Thursday in the third round of the National Small School’s cup.

With Shaun Hillier out injured, the PSS boys were captained by Jimmy Miller. The team had a slow start, going 1-0 down within 5 minutes. Second and third goals followed due to poor marking from an avoidable set piece on the outskirts of GK Louis Plumley’s box and a 1 on 1 that left Plumley helplessly watching the ball into the net.

A controversial penalty kick was awarded to ISCA to make it 4-0. The 4th goal left PSS demoralised going into the half time break.

After a quick turnover the boys kicked off, an immediate impact from subs Alfie Norris and Owen Gocher were immense, lifting the intensity and encouraging the best from the PSS boys.

Not giving up hope, PSS dominated the second half and with individual work from Jack Barnes running in behind, loud concise communication from Cairan Holder, sparks of flare from Jimmy Miller, quick feet from Bradley Willson, big headers being won from Owen Richards and Spencer Friend keeping the back line together, the boys scraped and scrapped their way back to 4-2.

A penalty was successfully converted from Tre Hansford and a top bins effort banged from outside the box from Miller made the last 15 minutes interesting.

However, in the dying moments of the game, PSS were caught on the break and gave away another penalty, meaning that the game resulted in a 5-2 loss for PSS.

The dismissal of Holder followed after the penalty kick and the lads left the pitch aggravated and disheartened, most definitely leaving a sour taste in the boys mouths.

PSS now have the Plymouth Schools Cup to fall back on, where they are due to play All Saints Academy in the 1st round.
